Hurlford United were formed in 1912 and play at Blair Park in the village of Hurlford, East Ayrshire, which is located the south-west of Scotland. They are founder members of West of Scotland Football League (formed 2020), and were one of fifteen clubs who played in the first season (2020/21) of WoSFL Premier Division at Tier 6 of the SFA league pyramid.

Previously, the Ford played for many years under the auspices of the Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA), in the Ayrshire Regional League, and then in the Ayrshire District of the SJFA West Region when it formed in 2002.

In 1972/73, the club were undefeated throughout Ayrshire. Manager Davie Sneddon's"Invincibles" won the Ayrshire Regional League and the Ayrshire Cup "double" that season. In December 1975, Hurlford won the inauggural Jackie Scarlett Cup, beating that's season's eventual Scottish Junior Cup winners, Kilbirnie Ladeside, by six goals to two in the replayed final (after 1-1 draw) at Dam Park, Ayr.

In 2012/13, United won the West Region Super First Division to earn promotion to the top divison in the SJFA West Region, where they played seven consectutive seasons until 2020.

In 2013/14, the Ford beat Glenafton Athletic 3-0 at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock to lift the Scottish Junior Cup for the first, and so far only time.

That success gained United entry to the Scottish F.A. Cup the following season. Victories away to Edinburgh University (5-0, after a 2-2 draw at home), Inverness Clachnacuddin (7-1) and Inverurie Locos (3-0) saw them progress to the 3rd round. where the Ford eventually succumbed to League One side Stirling Albion 13-12 on penalties in a replay (2-2 aet) at Forthbank Stadium, after drawing 1-1 at Blair Park.

In 2017/18, Hurlford reached the final of the Scottish Junior Cup again, but lost out 3-2 to Auchinleck Talbot. However, a strong finish to the season saw them lift the West of Scotland Cup for the first time after a pulsating victory in penalty kicks (2-2 after 90 mins) over that season's West Region Premier League Champions Beith in the final at Meadow Park, Irvine.
